The EUSR National Water Hygiene scheme is designed to provide individuals wishing to access clean water sites and individuals working on the clean water network with a National Water Hygiene EUSR registration, granting ‘Restricted Operations’ access. Upon successful completion of the course and assessment participants will be awarded with EUSR registration and a National Water Hygiene Blue Card.

The course intends to ensure all individuals preparing to access sites of ‘Restricted Operations’ (clean water sites and within the clean water network) understand their role in protecting public health by ensuring the cleanliness and safety of drinking water. The Blue Card training will ensure all participants understand proper hygiene practices in order to prevent health risks and water contamination. 

The EUSR National Water Hygiene training course is designed for water company employees or employees of subcontractors wishing to access work, activities or sites of ‘Restricted Operations’ this includes:

Service reservoirs

Pumping stations

Treatment works

Wells, springs, and boreholes

Water mains and service pipes

Upon successful completion of this passport scheme, participants will receive an EUSR National Water Hygiene Blue Card photo ID. The Blue Card is valid for three years from the date of training and assessment. For Blue Card renewal (after three years) Blue Card training and certification must be re-completed.

This course can often be referred to as ‘Blue Card Training’ as the course provides you with a Blue Card ID.

The EUSR National Water Hygiene training course consists of four modules, all developed in accordance with UK water companies and key water industry stakeholders. Course and module content are designed to build awareness of good water hygiene practices and industry standards.

Delivery of the course can either be in an online or in-person format, whether delivered online or in person, the course will always be led by a qualified trainer. Training is provided in an interactive manner where candidates will be encouraged to participate in discussions. The training will conclude with a simple multiple-choice assessment.

Module 3: Potential contamination and its consequences

Module 4: Preventing contamination

A health screening prior to the commencement of the training course and assessment must be completed by all participants. A simple questionnaire designed to ensure participants are fit for EUSR National Water Hygiene registry and the awarded Blue Card. You must declare whether you are experiencing, or have had in the past 12 months any of the following: 

Typhoid

Paratyphoid

Dysentery

Persistent diarrhoea or vomiting

Jaundice or Hepatitis (A or E)

Prolonged unexplained fever

If you have had any of the above illnesses in the past 12 months and believe yourself to be illness and symptom-free, you must hold written confirmation from a medical professional e.g. doctor or GP to clarify your health. 

The EUSR National Water Hygiene course cost is £155 and includes the cost of EUSR Registration and a virtual & physical blue card.
